We flew in early December just in time for Nikolaustag or
Saint Nikolaus. I never thought Germans would believe in a fictional Santa Claus. It was totally out of their character. I learned that it's one of their favorite holidays to honor Saint Nikolaus as the bishop who helped poor people with good deeds. The myth began when a father decided to send his daughters to a brothel house because he can't afford the dowry. When Nikolaus heard about it, he sneaked into their house with the money bags to prevent his daughters from prostitution. From that lore, they started honoring the legend of Saint Nikolaus with a holiday celebration.
